Phnom Penh Golfer Fears Not the Hyze of March

Siem Reap disc started their one-day tournament series with the Hyze of March on March 19, 2022, and the first one was won by a… Phnom Penher.

While no one wanted to see that happen, except Greg, he played nearly flawless golf and was definitely the best on the Basket Homestay course on that day. Here are some highlights…

I (Jared) go flat and hard on hole 2.
There’s nothing spectacular about the shot, but here you get a taste of what the course looks like.
Ben gives the basket a good scare on a blind shot over a death bush on 2.
I find a path through the tunnel on 3, notably with a disc that now lives at the bottom of a pond in Estero, Florida, USA.
Straight down the fairway on 4, even though fading to the right would have been far better.
Greg parks his approach on 4.
Course manager Pich knows this course better than anyone, but it still can be merciless sometimes.
I park it to hold a very satisfying par on 4.
One of those exciting times you get to see 4 made puts in a row. I shifted my beer into my left hand to make sure.
Greg throws the requisite short hyzer on 5 and hopes it went somewhere good. One of the disc boys go out to take a look.
Pich finds the right line on 5 also.
Hole 5’s bamboo ”chains” hold true for Pich.
They hold up for me too, but make it clear who’s the boss.
Low, but strong enough to clear the OB rice field on 6. With a different disc that lives under water in Estero now.
Greg goes over the rice and beyond.
Ben goes forehand on 6.
Ben’s approach lands him in the ”L of Death.”
You know if you think about a shot this long only good things can happen…
Greg’s second on 7.
Greg courts danger but parks his approach.
Sometimes disc golf can lead to great feats of strength, like me breaking my marker disc in two.
It’s only hole 7 but look at the crowd that’s gathered! And listen to that cheering!
Gotta hyzer over a massive wall of trees and bushes on 8. I did that. Probably birdied. Let’s say I birdied.
And I actually did!
